Members of Chess Team Advance to Provincial Play in Moncton

Congratulations to the STM Chess Team who did an excellent job representing our school at the district tournament held Saturday, March 21st. 4 players are heading off to Moncton on April 4th for Provincial play. The winners are: Gr. 12 Michael Smith, Silver Medal, Gr. 12 Abel Oh, Bronze Medal, Gr. 11 Brandon Belding, Gold Medal, Gr. 10, Trevor Hardy, Bronze Medal & Gr. 12 Stephen MacIsaac, honorable mention. Thanks are extended to Chess coach,Mr. Kevin Gormley for his dedication to the team.

 

STM Reach For The Top Team Wins Silver

Congratulations to the STM Reach for the Top Team for wining the silver medal last Saturday at a tournament held at SJHS. They went 4-1 in round-robin action, preceded to semi-finals& then finals against KV. The winning team was Bliss White, Raymond Carvell, Lee Turnbull &Alex Burgess.Thanks to coach Mrs. Jocelyn Wells.

 

St. Malachy's Teachers Triumph Over Saint John HS in Finals @ District 8 Volleyball Tourney

STM teachers won all 10 games in round robin play on Saturday @ Bayside earning them a spot in the semi-finals which they swept 2-0. Up against the SJHS Greyhounds in the final match only intensified their will to win! Congrats are extended to our Teacher Saints; Mr.Nadeau, Mrs. O'Hara, Ms. Shea, Mr. Garey, Mr. Shep, & Mr.& Mrs. Connors!!

 

Math and Science Tutorial Centers Begin this week!

The centres run from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on a regular day, and from 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. on a six-period day (Monday & Wednseday.) Please contact your teacher for room assignments.

 

High School Spirit Night

Saint John Sea Dogs sponsored a sprit night in February. This was a competition between high schools in Saint John. STM won $500 for gathering the most pucks after “Chuck a Puck”.

 

Reach for the Top

The St. Malachy's Reach for the Top team won the silver medal on Saturday's tournament at SJHS. They went 4-1 in round robin action, proceeded to semi-finals, and then finals against KV.
The winning team was Bliss White, Raymond Carvell, Lee Turnbull and Alex Burgess

 

Boys Hockey Team Advances

The Saint Malachy’s Boys Hockey Team defeated the Hampton High Huskies 4-2 at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink on Wednesday evening. The game was the fouth game in a best of five series, and the third win for Saint Malachy’s. Both Ben Collins and Sammy Maguire scored two goals each.

All games against Hampton were exciting matches which were enjoyed by all in attendance. Congratulations to each and every player.

The Saints will now advance to the Southern Conference final to play Rothesay Netherwood.

 

Bon Voyage

How was your March Break? Did you do anything exciting, interesting or out of the ordinary? Fifteen students and Mr. & Mrs. Killen from STM went on an adventure of a lifetime to Paris & the French Riviera. The group visited historical places such as Paris, Nice, Eze, Avignon, Pont a Garde, Orange, Monaco and St.Paul de Vence. Some highlights of the EF Tours trip were seeing the ever-famous Mona Lisa in the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and an evening cruise. Summed up in one word Alex Driscoll said it was, “Amazing” and then later , “Perfect”.

Saturday, March 14th- **St. Malachy’s is sponsoring the annual Dave Patterson Memorial Volleyball Tournament at St. Malachy’s. Stop by & see some great volleyball!

Sunday, March 15th- Parent Information Meeting- conducted by Mr. Tom King, Athletic Director- for all students playing Volleyball and their parents-6:00p.m., STM Auditorium. All Parents are asked to attend this important meeting.
